Cast alloy chemical composition

Look up the chemical composition of 148 cast alloy grades in 17 families — EN, ASTM and DIN designations, material numbers and element limits. Every grade listed here can be cast at our foundry in Mandra, Greece (ADI and wrought-steel chemistries on request) and machined in our own machine shop in Perama.

Grey cast iron

EN 1561 · 5 grades — Grey cast iron is an iron–carbon–silicon alloy in which the carbon solidifies as graphite flakes.

Ductile (nodular) cast iron

EN 1563 · EN 16124 · 11 grades — Ductile (nodular) cast iron is treated with magnesium so that the graphite forms spheroids instead of flakes, giving steel-like strength and elongation with the castability of iron.

Austempered ductile iron (ADI)

EN 1564 · 3 grades — Austempered ductile iron (ADI) is ductile iron given an austempering heat treatment: austenitising followed by an isothermal hold in a salt bath, which produces an ausferritic matrix of acicular ferrite and carbon-stabilised austenite.

Austenitic cast iron (Ni-Resist)

EN 13835 · 4 grades — Ni-Resist irons are cast irons alloyed with enough nickel, plus chromium, copper or silicon, to keep a stable austenitic matrix down to room temperature.

Abrasion-resistant white cast iron (Ni-Hard)

EN 12513 · 3 grades — Ni-Hard irons are white cast irons that solidify without graphite, so the structure consists of hard carbides in a matrix.

High-chromium white cast iron

DIN 1695 · EN 12513 · ASTM A532 · 9 grades — High-chromium white irons solidify without graphite: the carbon is bound in hard eutectic M7C3 chromium carbides set in a matrix that is mainly austenitic as cast and becomes martensitic after a destabilising heat treatment.

Carbon & low-alloy cast steel

EN 10293 · DIN 1681 · SEW 515 · EN 10084 · 21 grades — Carbon and low-alloy cast steels are iron-carbon alloys cast to final shape and almost always heat treated, by normalising or by quenching and tempering, so that the coarse as-cast structure is refined into a fine, tough and uniform one.

Austenitic manganese steel (Hadfield)

ISO 13521 · ASTM A128 · 9 grades — Austenitic manganese steels (Hadfield steels) combine high carbon with high manganese, so that after solution annealing and water quenching the microstructure is fully austenitic and tough.

Duplex & super duplex stainless cast steel

ASTM A890 · A995 · 9 grades — Duplex stainless cast steels solidify with a balanced ferrite–austenite microstructure, combining roughly twice the yield strength of austenitic grades such as CF8M with much better resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking.

Heat-resistant cast steel

EN 10295 · ASTM A297 · A351 · A608 · 18 grades — Heat-resistant cast steels are austenitic Fe-Cr-Ni and Fe-Ni-Cr alloys (plus one ferritic-austenitic grade) designed for service at high temperature rather than for aqueous corrosion.

Nickel & chromium-nickel casting alloys

ASTM A494 · A560 · 2 grades — These are nickel-base and chromium-nickel casting alloys in which iron is only a minor or residual element.

Tin bronze, gunmetal & bell bronze

EN 1982 · DIN 1705 · ASTM B505 · 8 grades — Tin bronzes are copper–tin alloys in which tin raises strength, hardness and wear resistance and gives good sliding behaviour against steel.

Aluminium bronze

EN 1982 · ASTM B148 · 6 grades — Aluminium bronzes are copper–aluminium alloys that form a tenacious alumina surface film, giving high strength together with good resistance to sea water, erosion and cavitation.

Copper-nickel

EN 1982 · 2 grades — Cast copper-nickel alloys are single-phase copper–nickel solid solutions with small, controlled additions of iron and manganese.

Cast brass & high-tensile brass

EN 1982 · CDA · 2 grades — Cast brasses are copper–zinc alloys; at higher zinc contents they solidify with a duplex alpha-beta structure that casts and machines well, and lead is added for free machining.

Aluminium casting alloys

EN 1706 · AA · BS 1490 · 9 grades — Aluminium casting alloys are mostly aluminium-silicon alloys, in which silicon provides the fluidity and low shrinkage needed for sound castings.
