Grey cast iron: chemical composition

EN 1561

Grey cast iron is an iron–carbon–silicon alloy in which the carbon solidifies as graphite flakes. The flakes give excellent castability, machinability, vibration damping and thermal conductivity, but limit ductility. EN 1561 classifies the grades by tensile strength, not by chemical composition.

Pump casings and impellers, valve bodies, housings, pulleys, machine frames and general engineering castings where damping and machinability matter more than toughness.

Grey cast iron: cast and machined in-house

We sand cast GJL grades such as EN-GJL-250 (GG-25) for pump impellers, pump casings and housings, check the chemistry on our spectrometer and machine the parts in the group's own CNC machine shop, with EN 10204 3.1 certificates on request.

  • Sand casting at our foundry in Mandra, Attica; centrifugal casting for bushings, sleeves and liners
  • Heat treatment at the foundry (water, oil or air quench); CNC machining in our machine shop in Perama
  • Spectrometer analysis of every heat, mechanical testing and NDT
  • EN 10204 3.1 inspection certificates; ISO 9001 (both plants) and ISO 14001 (foundry) certified
