Carbon & low-alloy cast steel: chemical composition
Carbon and low-alloy cast steels are iron-carbon alloys cast to final shape and almost always heat treated, by normalising or by quenching and tempering, so that the coarse as-cast structure is refined into a fine, tough and uniform one. The unalloyed GE grades of EN 10293 are defined mainly by their mechanical properties, with only phosphorus and sulphur limited. The Mn, CrMo and CrNiMo grades rely on their alloying elements for hardenability, strength and toughness in heavier sections.
Structural and machine-building castings such as housings, brackets, levers, wheels, gears, couplings, valve bodies and heavy-duty components for lifting equipment, quarries, cement plants and power generation. The case-hardening grades are used for cast gears and wear-loaded parts that are carburised after machining.

Carbon & low-alloy cast steel: cast and machined in-house
We sand cast carbon and low-alloy steel to EN 10293, EN 10213 and ASTM A216/A352, heat treat it at the foundry (water, oil or air quench) and, if required, machine it in the group's machine shop in Perama. Each heat is checked by spectrometer; orders ship with an EN 10204 3.1 certificate, with mechanical testing and NDT (UT, MT, PT) as specified.
- Sand casting at our foundry in Mandra, Attica; centrifugal casting for bushings, sleeves and liners
- Heat treatment at the foundry (water, oil or air quench); CNC machining in our machine shop in Perama
- Spectrometer analysis of every heat, mechanical testing and NDT
- EN 10204 3.1 inspection certificates; ISO 9001 (both plants) and ISO 14001 (foundry) certified
